Ejecta emplacement as the possible origin of Ryugu's equatorial ridge

چکیده
The Japanese spacecraft Hayabusa 2 visited the asteroid (162173) Ryugu and provided many high-resolution images of its surface, revealing that has a spinning-top shape with prominent equatorial ridge, much like shapes reported for some other asteroids. In this study, through dozens numerical calculations, we demonstrate during period fast rotation, ejecta from craters formed at lower mid-latitudes can be deposited on ridge. Assuming rotation 3 h, estimate an ridge height 50 m generated in 128(+47 / -27) My main-belt asteroid, or 3.1(+4.2 -1.2) Gy near-Earth asteroid. Therefore, form within average mean collisional lifetime km-sized main belt, but not Furthermore, our model may explain why blue (younger) material occurs

Atmospheric Effects On Ejecta Emplacement
Laboratory experiments allow the investigation of complex interactions between impacts and an atmosphere. Although small in scale, they can provide essential first-order constraints on the processes affecting late-stage ballistic ejecta and styles of ejecta emplacement around much larger craters on planetary surfaces. The laboratory experiments involved impacting different fine-grained particul...
متن کاملOn a ring origin of the equatorial ridge of Iapetus
[1] Most recent Cassini observations by the Imaging Science Subsystem (ISS) showed that the third largest Saturnian satellite, Iapetus, has a curious ridge system exactly aligned with its equator [Porco et al., 2005]. Because Iapetus has a large Hill sphere for the trapping of circum-satellitary material, a ring system might have been present during its formation. A scenario is proposed to desc...
متن کاملRampart craters on Ganymede: Their implications for fluidized ejecta emplacement
Some fresh impact craters on Ganymede have the overall ejecta morphology similar to Martian double-layer ejecta (DLE), with the exception of the crater Nergal that is most like Martian single layer ejecta (SLE) craters (as is the terrestrial crater Lonar). Similar craters also have been identified on Europa, but no outer ejecta layer has been found on these craters. The morphometry of these cra...
متن کاملRole of Volatiles in the Emplacement of Ejecta Deposits around Martian Impact Craters
Introduction: Impact craters are a dominant geological landform on Mars, the most Earth-like planet in the Solar System. The martian impact cratering record is more diverse than for Earth and the other terrestrial planets [e.g., 1]. Of particular interest is the presence of multiple layers of lobate or fluidized proximal ejecta deposits surrounding martian impact craters. These are collectively...
متن کاملA Possible Universal Origin of Hadronic Cosmic Rays from Ultrarelativistic Ejecta of Bipolar Supernovae
Based on the " cannonball model " for gamma-ray bursts of Dar and De Rújula it is proposed that masses of baryonic plasma (" cannonballs "), ejected in bipolar super-nova explosions in our Galaxy are the sources of hadronic Galactic cosmic rays (CRs) at all energies. The propagation of the cannonballs in the Galactic disk and halo is studied. Two mechanisms for the acceleration of the observed ...
